Dr. Amos Clark Smith was the FIRST to use a car in his practice and the first to specialize in x-ray work.
1901 Dr. Joseph Eggleston Johnson performed the FIRST appendectomy on J. Gordon Ginn. Dr. Johnson also was the first to use 606, renowned cure for syphilis (date unknown).
1930 Dr. Rembert C. Jones was the FIRST African-American doctor.
1948 Drs. Phyllis and John B. O'Neal, III owned the FIRST anesthesia machine.
1948 Dr. Phyllis Johnson O'Neal was the FIRST female doctor.
1951 Dr. Walton Johnson was the FIRST to receive royalties on a medical invention (Vim-Johnson Syringe Cleaner).
